I hear a lot of rumors from day to day here at Daley by the Yard. Some of them are fun, like that I'm pregnant (sorry to disappoint, but I'm not!) but sometimes they aren't, like that I'm going out of business. My husband and I definitely have human babies on the brain, but for the time being, my baby is this business. Daley by the Yard isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
About a year ago, we made the decision to change the mission of Daley by the Yard. At the time, we were one year into a long term lease of a larger space as we were watching fabric shops around us closing. We decided to put our focus onto what we believe is our strength - sewing machine sales, repair, and classes. With that, we had a big fabric sale and moved into a smaller space here in the same building at 481 Great Road in Acton, Mass.
So here we are today! We've transitioned into a sewing machine shop, like we wanted to. We started carrying Baby Lock sewing machines and sergers, which are the perfect complement to BERNINA, which we've carried since day one of opening in 2012. It may look like we've downsized, but in reality, we've grown! It's true, we no longer sell yarn, and our fabric and notions are dwindling down - but it's been a conscious decision to no longer restock them. We've repurposed the space they used to be in to double the size of our repair shop, to increase our amount of floor models for folks to learn about and try, and to bring in educators to teach fabulous workshops. This better fits our mission to provide our customers with the best sewing machine products, education, and service.
What you may not have known, is that over the last year, we've opened a new business, Daley Vapor, which has two locations, one in Pepperell and one in North Reading. We also still have Daley Landscaping. As you can imagine, this all keeps me pretty busy! Jacki is no longer with us to cover Daley by the Yard on Tuesday, but all the tasks I need to accomplish on Tuesday remain - so we've made the decision to be closed on Tuesday, which is a historically slow day.
I wanted to personally address and squash this rumor. 2017 is shaping up to be our best year yet and we're so excited to be moving into the Fall and for all of the exciting new machines and products coming out of BERNINA and Baby Lock. We've also got Karen Clancy coming out to teach a 3 day serger workshop, and we cannot wait to show you Baby Lock's newest serger.
