Chalkboard Fabric

How is Thanksgiving next week!? This year has absolutely flown by.

As a guest to multiple Thanksgiving dinners, I decided this year to make my hostess gifts. I wanted to make something thoughtful, cute, but more importantly, reusable. Bringing a bottle of wine to a dinner is always an appreciated gesture. I thought that making bags for the wine would be an easy way to personalize it, and make it more fun than a naked bottle or a store bought bag. We got chalkboard fabric in a few weeks ago, and I've been trying to figure out what to do with it. I've seen so many adorable projects on pinterest for it. We happened to get in a pattern for chalkboard wine slippers and bottle bags this week, and it all came together.

Tied with a Ribbon's Yule Christmas Tree Skirt

How sweet and charming is this tree skirt!? One of the fun things about being in a new place, is that we get to decorate for the Holidays! I found this pattern, by Tied with a Ribbon, on Etsy a couple of weeks ago. She's got quite a few whimsical, adorable, droolworthy patterns available. I've completed the tree skirt, and I'm working on the applique for the tree skit. I've got all the pieces stuck on with heat'n'bond, just need to get them stitched. I'm using the triple straight stitch for applique, it has a charming hand embroidered look to it.

I used Superior Razzle Dazzle couching thread and bobbin work for the star detail and the fairy lights. It adds just enough sparkle.

I used lovely Kaufman linen for the main fabric. I thought it added a really nice modern edge to this project. I'm planning on using the orangey-pink of that one house for the binding fabric. The directions don't call for lining this, but I definitely want to hide all of my stitching on the back.

What are you working on for the Holidays? Are you making gifts, or making home decor? Share your projects here in the comments, or on my facebook page!
